thumb_TISD_Logo_NewTYLER – Four Tyler ISD high school students were recently honored by the White House for their video submission in the inaugural White House Student Film Festival. The festival was created for students across the country to share reasons technology is important and how they use technology in their classrooms.

Students Darin King, Erica Thomas, Selena Bustos, and Elizabeth Armstrong, all of whom are visually impaired, created a video titled “No Barriers.” In the video, they each described and demonstrated in their own words the types of technology they use on a daily basis that helps them to research and complete classroom assignments and projects. This technology includes iPads and BrailleNote equipment along with screen magnification computer software and applications. The video received an Honorable Mention award and was among 2,000 entries nationwide.

“I enjoyed making the video and I hope it shows people how much technology can really help someone who is visually impaired,” Elizabeth said. You can go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/filmfestival for more on the film festival.
