Woman Charged with Killing Husband; Suspect, Victim Identified

RUSK — Authorities have identified the suspect and victim in a Cherokee County slaying. Rebecca Barker, 53, is in custody after she called authorities to say she had shot and killed her husband, Jerry Barker, 76. The shooting occurred just west of Rusk off Highway 84 around 11:00 Wednesday morning. Rebecca Barker has been charged with murder and remains in the Cherokee County Jail on $500,000 bond. The man’s body was found with a single gunshot wound in the living room of the couple’s home.
