Community Continues to Help Injured Firefighter

LINDALE — The Lindale/Smith County community is continuing to pull together on behalf of Lindale firefighter Joe Yeakley, seriously injured while battling a recent house blaze. Yeakley’s colleagues say he still has a long way to go. There are a number of opportunities in coming days to do your part for Yeakley and his family, including some that were added to the list over the weekend.
The Lindale Volunteer Fire Department lists the following options to help out:
EAST TEXAS RESTAURANTS GIVE BACK
January 30, 2014 – Pizza Inn of Lindale will give all tips and 10% of all sales from 11am – 9 pm to the Joe Yeakley Relief fund.

February 13, 2014 – All Day – Treat your Valentine to an early date at Chili’s and they will give 10% of your bill to the Joe Yeakley Relief fund when you mention Firefighter Joe or Lindale Fire Department. Participating are the Chili’s Restaurants in Lindale, Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Kilgore, Mt. Pleasant, Nacogdoches and Lufkin.
LINDALE-AREA 5K FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT INJURED FIREFIGHTER
The “Not Your Average Joe” 5K community fun run/walk is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 8, in Lindale to benefit Yeakley. Registration for the fun run begins at 9 a.m. with the fun run/walk to begin at 10 a.m. at the Picker’s Pavilion at the corner of N. Industrial and North Street (Behind the Lindale Central Fire Station) near downtown Lindale. A $25 donation includes a T-shirt (while supplies last) and there will be live music after the race in the pavilion. Food and drinks will be available after the race for a donation.
LINDALE – EAST CHEER GYM CHEERFEST
CheerFest will be a family event on Saturday, February 22 at 2718 S. Main in Lindale. This family event will offer bounce houses, pony rides, carnival games, vendors and more all to benefit the Joe Yeakley Relief Fund.
LINDALE – BENEFIT CONCERT & DINNER FEATURING CASEY RIVERS AND FRIENDS
The “Pray for Joe” benefit concert and dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, at Lindale High School located at 920 East Hubbard in Lindale. This event will offer a Fajita Dinner benefit from 5pm – 7pm in the Lindale High School Cafeteria. Following the dinner, “HIS” Music Ministry will be hosting a benefit concert in the Lindale Preforming Arts Center to start at 7pm. Mike Holbrook from 99.9 KMOO morning show will guide you through a night filled with music by local artist Mike Huff, Steven Giles, McFarlin & Mabry, Iron Mountain Project and featuring Lindale’s Casey Rivers. During this concert there will also be an autographed guitar auction. Entrance to the concert is by donation and is first come first serve seating.
All proceeds from these events will benefit Yeakley, a 14-year veteran with the Lindale Volunteer Fire Department and a 30-year veteran of the fire service. Yeakley is still in critical condition in Parkland Hospital in Dallas being treated for burns to his face and hands he sustained when the roof collapsed on him early in the morning on Friday, January 17.
