More Details Released after Officer Placed on Leave, Roommate Arrested

thumb_police-longview2LONGVIEW — Authorities Thursday released more details after an East Texas man was arrested and a veteran Longview police officer placed on administrative leave. KETK reports it happened after illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in an apartment unit rented out to the officer. Donald Glynn Spencer, 27, who is not a police officer, was arrested on scene after Longview police and the County Organized Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at at the officer’s rental home Tuesday and recovered less than two ounces of marijuana and “different items of drug related paraphernalia.”

According to the Longview News-Journal and sources close to the investigation, the officer placed on leave is Lt. Mike Satterwhite, a veteran police officer who has been with the Longview Police Department since 1976. The warrant was issued, just after 5:00 p.m. for an apartment which Spencer and Satterwhite share in the 300 block of Lake Lamond Avenue at the Autumnwood Apartments. Satterwhite is a Longview native who, prior to joining the LPD, was a military police officer in the Unite States Army.
Spencer was released around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, from the Gregg County Jail on $500 bond.
