Cornyn Discusses Obamacare in Tyler

thumb_johncornynTYLER — Senator John Cornyn visited Tyler Tuesday to speak with small business owners about the effects of Obamacare. KETK reports the new healthcare bill is creating uncertainty for their future, so the senator has a plan. “What we need to do is empower people to make their own healthcare choices by having affordable alternatives for them and their families,” says Cornyn. He believes that a government- regulated program is not the answer, but rather one that focuses on two main points: “bringing down the cost through using market and choice, and making sure the doctor patient relationship is respected.”

Cornyn believes business owners do need to prepare themselves for what lies ahead during the next three years of Obama’s presidency. “Unfortunately, what they’re having to do is to make very hard decisions in terms of cutting down the size of their work force to come beneath the 50 employee cap,” Cornyn remarked. While the city of Tyler is currently booming in economic and job growth, Cornyn says Obamacare could have a long-lasting negative effect. He says, “30% of our work force is tied to the medical sector; it could impact our economy at the macro level. We could see a lot of down-sizing.” Cornyn urges residents to reach out to Texas representatives if you want to voice concerns.
