LONGVIEW (AP) – Two people remain hospitalized after stabbings at an East Texas medical complex left a nurse dead and four other people wounded. Longview police Officer Kristie Brian on Wednesday had no immediate update on the investigation of the attack that killed nurse Gail Sandidge, 57. A suspect in Tuesday’s stabbings at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview remains in custody. Kyron Rayshawn Templeton, 22, Longview, was being held on a murder charge and four counts of aggravated assault. His bond is set at $2.6 million.
A hospital spokeswoman says a man was in critical condition Wednesday while a woman was in good condition. Victoria Ashworth says both were visiting the hospital’s Ambulatory Surgical Center at the time of the attack. A nurse and another visitor who were also wounded were treated and released later Tuesday.
We’re learning more now about Templeton. According to the Gregg County judicial records, he has a short criminal history. This past April, he was booked into the Gregg County Jail on theft charges but let out the same day. It’s also been learned that he graduated from Longview High School in 2009 and played for the Longview Lobos football team in 2008.
KETK reports Good Shepherd Medical Center is planning a candlelight vigil to remember those who were involved in and affected by the violence. The vigil will take place on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., at the Medical Plaza’s main parking lot at 703 East Marshall Avenue in Longview. All individuals from the community and medical center affected by Tuesday’s tragedy are invited to attend.
