Man Accused of Hitting Woman with a Shovel

LUFKIN — A Lufkin man is in custody, charged with assault. KETK reports Joseph Eugene Copes, 39, of Lufkin, has been charged with assault along with seven Lufkin Municipal Court warrants. He was arrested after officers answered a call in the 1400 block of Briarwood Drive in Lufkin. A woman told officers the man had choked her and hit her with a shovel. Copes is currently in the Angelina County Jail.
