Spring Hill ISD Sued over Bullying Claims

Posted/updated on: October 30, 2013 at 12:33 pm

LONGVIEW — A lawsuit has been filed over a Spring Hill girl who claims to have been the target of bullies, so much so, she says, she was forced to leave the school district and enroll elsewhere. According to KETK, bullies reportedly targeted the girl because she has a speech impediment. Now the child’s mother wants justice. Choosing to remain anonymous, the 14-year-old former Spring Hill Junior High student now attends Longview High School. The girl says constant mocking of her stutter took a toll on her emotions, and she says the teachers were no help, that “they would tell me to ignore it and it will go away.”

Her mother had enough. After police reports against the bullies and numerous visits with the principals and superintendent, the mother says nothing was being done. And she says others are fed up as well. The mom claims,”There are other parents that have left the district because of the ongoing bulllying.” Now she’s suing the school district. The mother adds, “We filed a due process hearing against the school along with me filing Office of Civil Rights complaints and TEA (Texas Education Agency) complaints.”

When KETK asked to interview Wes Jones, the Spring Hill ISD superintendent he replied by email, “Spring Hill ISD follows the Olweus bullying prevention program. The Spring Hill ISD Administrative staff and school resource officer address all concerns regarding bullying. I respectfully decline an interview.”
