Chapel Hill ISD Holds Meeting to Discuss School Bond

CHAPEL HILL — When the people of Chapel Hill saw a proposed bond of $31.2 million while the school is already over $30 million in debt, they had some questions. “Primarily the concern is the bond issue and finding out what the exact numbers are and what the current debt is,” CHISD parent Tammy Fumes told KETK. So Chapel Hill ISD put together two meetings so they could go over the bond and explain where the money would go. “I hope number one they educate everybody,” Fumes said.
Saturday was the first of two meetings. Chapel Hill ISD Superintendent Dr. Donni Cook gave a PowerPoint presentation on details of the bond money and what it would be used for. “We are looking at becoming designated as an early high school/college campus,” said Cook. She added, “We feel it’s time to add the new gymnasium.” But the parents are concerned with the already high debt. “Shelve it, take a look at it, take it apart,” Fumes said. “Decide what is the real priority and work from there.”
