OVERTON — A boil water notice remains in effect for the City of Overton until further notice, and will likely stay in place until at least Friday morning. Officials say a major water break occurred on Cohagen Street at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon when a ten-inch water line split down the middle. The line leads directly to the water tower which feeds the middle of the city. The water line was repaired late Wednesday night, but work remains to be done.
City officials say the city crew has been trying to build up the water in the storage tanks but water is being used as fast as the crew is pumping water into the tanks. The city’s asking people to conserve water. Officials say the crew will continue to monitor water level and chlorine in water. Storage tanks should be up to full capacity by late today, according to officials. They add that water will be tested Friday morning to ensure that quality is back to normal. Because of the water problem, classes in the Overton School system started Thursday morning at 10:00. School buses ran two hours later than usual. usual.
