Ag Commissioner Hopeful Chats with KTBB

UVALDE — Uvalde Mayor J Allen Carnes Thursday announced his candidacy for Texas agriculture commissioner and took a moment for a phone interview with KTBB. Carnes says he’s the only candidate for the post “who is a farmer, a producer and mayor of a growing municipality who understands what must be done in rural, urban and suburban Texas to keep our state sustainable, to avoid Texas’ dependence on foreign lands for our food, clothing and shelter.”

“We have a farm crisis in Texas today. Our population is booming, the demand for food production is exploding, our water resources are dwindling and fewer people are choosing farming and ranching as a profession,” says Carnes, a Republican. “I will work to protect agriculture, encourage a new generation of farmers and ranchers, promote healthy living, and conserve our natural resources.” Current Ag Commissioner Todd Staples of Palestine is running for lieutenant governor.
