Bob Garrett to Chair UT Health Northeast Development Board

Bob Garrett3TYLER — The president and chief executive officer of Fair Oil Company, Bob Garrett, has been named chairman of the UT Health Northeast Development Board. Garrett succeeds Herb Buie, who led the board for 10 years. “First we want to thank Herb Buie for the outstanding job he did on our development board. And I am very excited to have Bob Garrett elected as our new board chairman,” said Dr. Kirk A. Calhoun, president of UT Health Northeast. “His energy, enthusiasm, and passion will inspire our 900 employees, scientists, and physicians to do an even better job for our patients and our community,” Dr. Calhoun said.

Garrett currently chairs the City of Tyler Unified Development Code Committee and is vice-president of the R.W. Fair Foundation. He has served on the development board for six years and is a member of the Salvation Army Development Board, the Tyler Economic Development Council, and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Business-Education Council. “It’s exciting to see the advancements that UT Health Northeast has made in the past several years under the leadership of Dr. Calhoun and former board chairman Herb Buie,” Garrett said. “We’re fortunate to have such an outstanding facility and economic driver as UT Health Northeast in our community. We look forward to its continued growth and to increased support from throughout the region.”

Garrett is a real estate developer and has served as president of both the Tyler Area Builders Association and the Texas Association of Builders (TAB). He was named Developer of the Year by the TAB in 2007. He also is a member of the boards of directors of both Southside Bank and the T.B. Butler Publishing Co. A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, he has been a member of SFA’s Board of Regents since 2007, served as chairman from 2010 to 2012, and was recently appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to a second term that expires in 2019. He earned a master’s in business administration from the University of Texas at Tyler and has been named a UT Tyler Distinguished Alumni.
