An Attempted Abduction at a Kemp School

KEMP — Authorities are looking for a man the say entered the Kemp Junior High School and tried to abduct two girls. They say the man entered the school on August 19th, and approached the two students in an inappropriate way. School Superintendent Sam Swierc said on the district’s web site, “there was no abduction, kidnapping or assault as some sources are indicating.”
The superintendent went on to say, “The district reaction to this incident is of a very serious nature. The procedure to deal with this situation is and continues to be appropriate and on-going. Several meetings during the summer as well as since the incident have been conducted with directors, principals, coaches and sponsors regarding the supervision, safety and security for all students.
The district has updated its Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). This plan will be posted on-line and available for anyone to view at the district website. The district has replaced and updated some of its security camera systems on the campuses with a new system being considered at the Primary campus. The district has requested assistance from our local and county law enforcement agencies to help with the beginning of school and having a continuing presence in the district.
As Superintendent of Kemp ISD, I am assuring all constituents of Kemp ISD that the district has been and will continue to be vigilant and maintain a constant effort to ensure that all measures to keep our children, staff and members of our school community safe and secure. This is our responsibility and we will adhere to the best practices of maintaining a protective environment for students of Kemp ISD and stakeholders at all times. Accountability for our students is our #1 priority. Anything less is unacceptable.”
