Skip Ogle (3) (3)TYLER — District 6 State Rep. Matt Schaefer of Tyler has his first announced opponent in the 2014 elections. Businessman and community outreach specialist Skip Ogle of Tyler will face Schaefer in next year’s GOP primary. Ogle says he’s been encouraged by friends and supporters throughout Tyler, Whitehouse, Noonday and surrounding communities. According to press materials, Ogle “has a long history of involvement and support in our local community based organizations, building strategic coalitions to help the people of Tyler and East Texas.”

Information from the Ogle campaign also says, “As a solid conservative, Skip is focused on the protection of innocent life, the continued protection of our 2nd Amendment rights, instilling personal responsibility, defining the proper role of government and increasing educational opportunities for all Texans.” Ogle adds, “While we must fight over-reaching federalism, our party is facing a very critical time as the recently announced “Battle Ground Texas,” a group of former Obama campaign operatives, has moved to Texas to turn it from a red state to a blue state. We must fight together to keep Texas a conservative state.”

Ogle didn’t offer any comment on the job Schaefer has done during his first term representing District 6. Information from Schaefer’s office says Schaefer “is currently unavailable for comment on matters of legislative business or political inquiries, as he is currently serving on Navy Reserve duty.”

Ogle graduated from UT Arlington with a degree in architecture and a Masters in City and Regional Planning. He is the Director of Community Relations for Suddenlink Communications and the owner/operator of Skip Ogle Homes, LLC, a small residential construction business serving the Tyler area.
