TYLER — Dr. Lane J. Brunner has been named founding dean of the new College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. Alisa White, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, announced. Brunner joins UT Tyler from the California Northstate University College of Pharmacy, where he served as professor and Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences chair. This will be Brunner’s second experience as founding dean, having successfully served in that role at the Regis University School of Pharmacy in Denver, according to a UTT news release.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Brunner to the UT Tyler community,” White said. “With his exceptional experience as a founding dean, professional pharmacist and accomplished researcher, we know he will do great things for our new college.” Earlier this year, the Texas Legislature passed legislation authorizing UT System to establish a college of pharmacy at UT Tyler. Gov. Rick Perry signed the legislation in June, and the UT System Board of Regents is expected to officially establish the school later this month. “It is an honor to be invited to join a university with the strong reputation of UT Tyler, and I am excited about getting to work on this new program that is so vital to the East Texas region. My wife, Molly, and I look forward to living in Tyler,” Brunner said.
