LONGVIEW β Wednesday, July 31st, has been designated as National Heatstroke Prevention Day by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The Longview Police Department and Longview Parks and Recreation Department have teamed up with Lively Olds Cadillac GMC to raise awareness on this important topic.
A temperature display will remain set up tlll 2:00 this afternoon near the east side of Spur 63 near the Lively Olds sign. The display shows two temperatures, the temperature inside the car with the windows closed and one outside displaying the actual outside temperature. This display is to raise awareness of what can happen in just a few short minutes when a child, disabled person, or animal is left inside a vehicle in these hot Texas summer days. Police ask you to stop by and see for yourself just how fast a vehicle can heat up. According to a Longview PD news release, βIt only takes a few minutes for a car to heat up and that can lead to a lifetime of heartache.β
