Man Arrested in Van Zandt County Shooting

William HoneaCANTON — Van Zandt County authorities have announced the arrest of William Lee Honea, 32, of Yantis in a July 3 shooting that injured a 24-year-old Grand Saline man. Honea was arrested last week at a residence just outside of Emory, on Rains County Road 3333. He was wanted on a Van Zandt County warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The shooting occurred near Grand Saline.

Officials from the Department of Public Safety, Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Service, and Rains County Sheriff’s Department converged on the location where Honea was suspected of hiding. Authorities report Honea was taken into custody without incident, along with two others suspected of harboring a fugitive, and taken to the Rains County Jail. Honea was then transported to the Van Zandt County Jail, where he remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.
