Smith County Man Guilty of Drug Trafficking Charges

TYLER – A 28-year-old Tyler man has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking violations. Ernesto Renteria pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine yesterday in Tyler before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love. According to federal prosecutors, from an unknown date until June 9, 2011, Renteria agreed with other persons to acquire and distribute 26 grams of pure methamphetamine in Tyler. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on May 22, 2013, charging Renteria with drug trafficking violations. Renteria faces a minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison at sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
