JEFFERSON — Marion County authorities have identified a man and woman found dead inside a burned home near Lake O’ the Pines last week. Both were shot to death before the fire, said Marion County Sheriff David McKnight. According to KETK and the Longview News-Journal, a preliminary autopsy report identified the bodies of Willard Landry, 66, and his mother, Vivian Dome, 85. The cause of their deaths was tentatively ruled homicide, McKnight said. There was no evidence of smoke in the victims’ lungs, the sheriff said, indicating they died before the house burned.
Mims Volunteer firefighters made the discovery about 1:00am July 8 responding to a house fire call. When they arrived, firefighters first found the body of Paul Dome, 73, outside in his car, dead from a single gunshot wound. His death has been ruled a suicide. The bodies of Dome’s wife and stepson were discovered in the charred remains of the house located behind One Eye Jack’s Liquor Store at Alley Creek on FM 729. McKnight said the incident is considered a murder-suicide.
Friends of Paul Dome said they noticed some oddities a couple days before the fire. Sabrina Greer, a cashier at One Eye Jack’s, said she noticed Dome’s dogs running free on July 6. She said this was strange because Dome didn’t allow the dogs out of his sight. Larry Simpson said he tried to contact Dome in the days leading up to the fire, but was unable to do so. “The last day we were able to confirm someone making contact with Dome is July 3,” McKnight said on Monday. Prior to owning the RV park in which he and his family lived, Dome owned One Eye Jack’s.
