LONGVIEW — Attorney General and GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott made a campaign stop in his hometown of Longview Tuesday. KETK reports Abbott was welcomed by a packed house of about 100 at Horaney’s. Abbott touched on many topics, from standing up for Texas rights to growing up in East Texas. He says he understands the issues East Texans face every day. According to Abbott, everyone in the area “needs to know that they will have a governor who understands them and will represent them in Austin, Texas, every single day.”
Abbott knows winning the election won’t be easy, especially without the Hispanic vote. He noted, “My wife’s grandparents came to Texas from Mexico and worked their way up from janitorial work — and I understand the Hispanic culture deeply through 31 years of successful marriage. And I know that the very same foundation that my marriage is based upon is the same foundation that…will connect the Hispanic community and the Republican Party.”
As far as challenges the state faces in the future, Abbott says the Texas economy is one of the most important. He says, “One of the biggest challenges we have is to make sure the Texas economy continues to grow and remains the number one economy in the nation. To do that, we must get the government out of the business of picking winners and losers. We must reduce taxes on small business owners to keep our economy growing.”
