Longview Animal Shelter Fields Dognapping Calls
Posted/updated on: July 12, 2013 at 1:14 pmLONGVIEW — The head of the Humane Society of Northeast Texas in Longview said Wednesday the agency fielded two reports this past week that animals have been taken from residents by men posing as either humane society or animal control officers. According to KETK and the Longview News-Journal, Humane Society Executive Director Scott Holloway said the first report was taken June 29. The Humane Society’s relocation manager says the caller told her that men came to her house, said they were with the humane society foster unit, that they’d had complaints and were taking her dogs. Officials point out that the Humane Society does not come and take people’s animals.
On July 6, a woman said neighbors told her two men who identified themselves as being with animal control took her dog from her front yard as well as her neighbor’s dogs. “My neighbors told me these guys in white suits were chasing dogs with a net and putting them in cages,” the woman said. She’s offering a reward for her pet’s return. Humane Society officials advise pet owners to get a license tag number if such events occur again — and do not let people take your animals.
