OVERTON — A man was arrested after a high speed chase in Overton Monday night. Overton Police tell KETK an officer attempted to pull over William Reider, 34, of Overton, on Commerce Street around 8:00pm for an expired inspection. When the officer turned his vehicle around to initiate the traffic stop, Reider sped away, according to officials. Police say Reider led the officer on a brief high-speed chase through town.
Reider eventually wrecked his car while attempting to make a turn off of Highway 323 onto Rusk County Road 124, according to authorities. They say that his car rolled multiple times, but that he was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. He was arrested and booked into the Rusk County Jail for evading arrest with a motor vehicle. Police say Reider told them he drove away because he did not want a ticket.
