943950857672SMITH COUNTY — Smith County Sheriff’s Department deputies are investigating a shooting just outside of Tyler this afternoon. Suspect, Joshua Pettigrew (pictured) turned himself in just before 5:30. The 31-year-old was booked into the Smith County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. According to KETK, the incident happened in the 7400 block of County Road 129. A male and female were reportedly involved in a domestic disturbance when the incident began. The male, who has not been named, was leaving the residence when the female, Tina Allen, 49, reportedly got a .22 caliber firearm and opened fire on the male, shooting him in the shoulder.

Allen then came out of the house when Pettigrew allegedly grabbed the gun from her and continued to shoot at the other male. The male victim, fighting for his life at the time, grabbed hold of the Pettigrew’s arm to keep from being shot again. The incident was interrupted by an off duty Smith County Jail employee who lived in the area. Pettigrew fled from the scene on foot. A foot chase between Smith County officials, local agencies, and Texas Department of Public Safety began. The perimeter was searched by DPS officials in helicopters and local agencies on the ground. K-9 units were used in the search this afternoon. The victim was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

Allen was transported to the Smith County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $50,000.
