Gun Barrel City logoGUN BARREL CITY (AP) – An East Texas city is staying true to its name by passing a resolution encouraging homeowners to own a firearm. On April 23, the city council in Gun Barrel City approved the measure that urges residents to have a weapon in their home, “together with ammunition.” There are exemptions included in the resolution, such as for those with a mental disability or who “conscientiously oppose” having a weapon. The city 55 miles southeast of Dallas is steeped in firearms: Its logo features two revolvers and the motto is, “We’ll shoot straight with you.” Mayor Paul Eaton told Dallas station WFAA-TV that gun ownership is a right. “We don’t need our rights taken away,” he said.
