One Dead in Highway 271 Wreck

SMITH COUNTY — One person is dead following a two vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 271, just south of Interstate Highway 20. The crash happened around 1:15 Monday afternoon. DPS Trooper Jean Dark says a passenger car was struck by a pickup after pulling onto the northbound side of the highway. The driver of the car was killed. The driver of the pickup was hospitalized for what were termed “non-incapacitating injuries”; his passenger was treated at the scene. The northbound lanes were blocked for a time but reopened late Monday afternoon. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
