Longview Man Accused of Attempted Sex with 14-Year-Old

LONGVIEW — A Longview man was arrested when police said he tried to meet a person he thought was 14 to have sex. Russell Glen West, 54, was arrested at 5:00 Wednesday afternoon by Longview police. He was charged with online solicitation of a minor after a month-long conversation with an undercover law enforcement agent, according to police spokeswoman Deborah Stiles. KETK and the Longview News-Journal report a probable cause affidavit says West communicated with the agent “using electronic mail communications and text messages.” Stiles said she could not discuss the content of the messages because the case was still under investigation.

West was arrested in the 300 block of Lake Lamond Road when he went to meet the minor for sex, according to authorities. At last report, he was held in the Gregg County Jail on a $10,000 bond. No other arrests were made in connection with the case, Stiles said.
