Posted/updated on: March 14, 2013 at 6:03 pm

Joseph Edward Strickland2TYLER — The leader of the Catholic Diocese of Tyler says the selection of a new pope is a joyous time for the Catholic Church and for all people of faith. Speaking to KETK, Bishop Joseph Strickland (pictured) remarked on how quickly Pope Francis was chosen. Strickland noted that the selection was made on the second day of voting in the conclave. He calls that “a great sign of the unity of the cardinals.”

In thanksgiving for the election of Pope Francis, a Holy Mass will be offered at 12:05pm this afternoon at the Chapel of Sts. Peter & Paul, ESE Loop on Bishop Gorman High School Campus. Fr. Anthony McLaughlin, JCD, rector of the Cathedral Parish, will be the celebrant and homilist. All parishioners, and the general public, are invited to attend.
