Posted/updated on: March 10, 2013 at 5:18 pm

nickyagnewTYLER — Authorities issued a warrant for a Dallas man’s arrest Thursday after they say he skipped out on a life sentence. During a court break, Nicky Charune Agnew, 37, of Dallas, left the Smith County courthouse and never returned, according to Civil Coordinator Terry Cockrum. The 7th District Court called for a lunch recess at around 10:45am and resumed at 1:00. Judge Kerry L. Russell sentenced Agnew to life behind bars following a returned guilty verdict by the jury. KETK reports the convict had been in court for a possession of a controlled substance charge.

According to state law, if the defendant does not return during trial, the court is allowed to proceed. Agnew was not held by bailiffs because he had bonded out on $150,000. Cockrum stated Agnew had at least eight criminal prior convictions with the majority in Dallas County. Agnew remains at large. If you have information on his whereabouts, you’re asked contact your local authorities or the Smith County Crime Stoppers at 903-597-2833.
