According to a press release, “We are repositioning the Humane Society by telling a different story and communicating a different message. The Humane Society has changed its name to Pets Fur Peopleā¦because love is a four legged word.” This year marks the agency’s 45th anniversary. Last year, according to the news release, some 800 families adopted from the Humane Society. The agency became a selective-admission, no-kill animal sanctuary about three years ago and remains the only one of its kind in East Texas, according to the release.
