State Rests in Tyler Dentist’s Murder Trial

TYLER (AP) — Prosecutors have finished presenting their case against a retired East Texas dentist in the shooting death of his wife of 26 years. The state rested Thursday night in the murder trial of Bobby Ray Nichols, 76, in the fatal shooting of Rosalind Nichols, 71. Nichols previously admitted to shooting his wife on the night of June 29, 2012, after a heated argument at their Tyler home. The defense is scheduled to begin presenting its case for Nichols to the Smith County jury Wednesday. If convicted, Nichols could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
