JACKSONVILLE (AP) — The state’s oldest junior college remains on the auction block after it filed for bankruptcy last year. The auction of the Lon Morris College campus began Monday at a Dallas law firm and continued Tuesday. The two-year United Methodist school is in the small East Texas town of Jacksonville, about 125 miles southeast of Dallas. Auction firm AmeriBid says the 112-acre campus is being auctioned off in 16 sections, or lots, that include one or more buildings or athletic fields. Lon Morris filed for bankruptcy in July. The college then suspended classes in August after the U.S. Department of Education decided not to allow students to use federal aid there. Federal statutes disqualify schools that file for bankruptcy.
