Kilgore Officer Breaks Finger in Struggle

KILGORE — A Kilgore police officer was injured while trying to detain two men who were allegedly passing counterfeit checks. The Kilgore Police Department responded to claims of two men, later identified as Moyses Aguirre-Banega and Jose Ortez, passing bad checks at the H&L Liquor store. When authorities made contact with the alleged criminals, a struggle ensued and one of the officers used his taser to subdue Aguirre-Banega. According to KETK, a police officer’s finger was broken during the fight. No major injuries were reported. Banega was charged with Robbery, forgery, and assault on a peace officer. Ortez is charged with tampering and failure to ID.
