Man Charged with Killing Dog in Fire

WOOD COUNTY — A Wood County grand jury has indicted a man who was arrested and accused of killing a dog by throwing it in a fire. Larry Lowrey, 28, of Point, was indicted this past week on the charge of cruelty to a non-livestock animal and torture. Lowrey was arrested in April after Wood County sheriff’s deputies discovered the remains of a dog inside a burn pit with other debris. Witnesses, who were with Lowrey on CR 2174, told authorities Lowrey threw the dog in the fire on a dare. The Longview News-Journal reports, he told authorities that he was swinging the dog in the direction of the fire when he tripped and tossed the animal into the flames, If convicted, Lowrey could face up to two years in jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
