Posted/updated on: June 28, 2012 at 5:32 pm

SMITH COUNTY — Department of Public Safety officials said “speed and distraction” were the likely causes of a fatal one-car crash which claimed the life of Windy Holland, 38, of Lindale. The wreck occurred one week ago today. According to KETK, the crash occurred on Texas Highway 110, north of Smith County Road 433, just after midnight. A DPS spokesperson said Holland’s car left the roadway and hit a culvert, “which vaulted her into the utility pole.” Holland was wearing a seatbelt, DPS officials said. The crash is still under investigation. After the vehicle hit the utility pole, power was cut off for area residents for a brief time until power company workers restored electricity.
