Two Jailers Charged with Negligent Homicide

NACOGDOCHES — NACOGDOCHES COOUNTY — Two Nacogdoches County jailers were booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail Monday afternoon in connection to the death of inmate Edwinta Deckard.(pictured) An autopsy report stated she died from natural causes and dehydration. According to the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, Elizabeth Ann Owens, 40, of Nacogdoches, and Danny Ray Russell, 35, of Douglass, are charged with criminally negligent homicide, a state jail felony. The two posted a $4,000 bond each and were released less than an hour after being booked into the jail, according to the jail records.
