TYLER — Significant damage is reported from a fire in Tyler’s Azalea District. The Tyler Fire Department responded to the two-alarm blaze Monday at 1122 South Chilton. The initial call was received shortly after 2:00 yesterday afternoon, and the caller reported a house with flames showing out of a second floor window. The first arriving unit called for a second alarm and reported a working fire on the second floor. Five engines and one ladder company, along with two district chiefs and an investigator, responded to the scene.
The fire apparently originated in a bedroom on the second floor. This room sustained heavy fire damage, and there was smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the house. Residents were not at home when the fire started. The fire remains under investigation.
