Child Killed in Accidental Shooting

TYLER — Police in Tyler are investigating the deadly weekend shooting of a young boy. Shortly before 12:30 Sunday afternoon, officers responded to 3204 Fairlawn on the report of an accidental shooting. Prior to the arrival of officers, the victim was transported by private vehicle to East Texas Medical Center. Jaylen Johnson, 4, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Investigators say the boy’s mother, Andrea Johnson, is employed at the Smith County Sheriff Jail. They say the youngster got into his mother’s car and found the gun, and accidently shot himself in the head.
