Crime Down Last Year in Smith County

TYLER — Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith says crime was down in the county in 2011. According to KETK, he says the reasons are enhanced awareness and better technology. The sheriff’s office reports it worked five homicides in 2011 compared to seven in 2010. Sexual assaults were also down by 19%. The only increase: burglary was up by about 8%.
