Jacksonville Man Charged with Murder

JACKSONVILLE – One person is in custody and the investigation is continuing into a Cherokee County shooting death. The body of Martha Caselin Ramirez, 42, of Jacksonville, was found in a wooded area on County Road 4201 near Jacksonville. She appears to have been shot at least twice.
Jose Diaz Perez, 48, Jacksonville, was arrested after he called 911 to report that he had just shot someone. They believe the shooting occurred inside his pickup. Perez remains in the Cherokee County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
