Lufkin Area Gets Tornado Relief
Posted/updated on: June 30, 2010 at 11:04 amLUFKIN (AP) — Residents of the Lufkin area whose homes were damaged or destroyed in a December tornado can apply for part of $1.4 million in housing assistance. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs on Monday announced the grants will be available for low-income residents and private developers. Authorities say the Dec. 23 tornado destroyed as many as six homes and damaged about 238 others. The Lufkin Daily News reported Tuesday that some damaged houses still have tarps on the roofs. A public notice will be issued when the application process is ready.
