Family, Friends Remember Pilot Fred Scholz

LAKE PALESTINE — Family and friends grieve in the aftermath of a tragic airplane incident. Fred Scholz, 85, was found dead Saturday morning on the rocks of the Lake Palestine Dam after his plane was found in the lake Thursday. Game Warden Gary Dugan told KETK a bit about how the search for Scholz was conducted. According to Dugan, “First thing we look at is where the wind direction blows during the night, and that’s where we looked that morning because…once they come up, they’ll float that way.” Scholz’s pastor Mark Braaten says he’s been struck by “the support and care of the East Texas community, law enforcement, the neighbors, the church community.” The plane was pulled from the water Friday. An autopsy on Scholz’s body has been ordered.
