Girl Hospitalized after Kilgore House Fire

KILGORE -— A 7-year-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday night after a house fire that displaced a Kilgore family. Firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of Gulf-Hercules Road about 11:00 Tuesday night in connection with a residential house fire. According to the Longview News-Journal, Kilgore fire investigators said they were able to control the fire by 11:30 but the home was heavily damaged. Homeowner Leatha McBroom said her granddaughter was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas following the fire for burns to her feet.

McBroom said she is unsure how the fire started. The family has been put in contact with the American Red Cross, who is putting them up in a hotel room for the next several days. Fire investigators said the cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday.
