Suspected Car Thief Arrested

TYLER -— Tyler Police have arrested a suspected car thief after a wreck Wednesday morning. Jerry Barnett III, 28, of Lindale, is accused of stealing the vehicle in Lindale. Officers said he wrecked it in Tyler. The one-vehicle accident happened at the intersection of Sneed and Lake Streets around 7:00 yesterday morning. Officers said Barnett hit a utility pole, knocking down power lines across the road. He then fled on foot. Authorities said Barnett was arrested at the Dollar General on Fifth Street in Tyler, where he was reportedly caught shoplifting. He was booked into the Smith County Jail with bond set at $20,500.
