Lufkin Pedestrian Hit by SUV, Flown to ETMC

LUFKIN — A Palestine man remained in a Tyler hospital Friday night after being struck by an SUV as he walked across Timberland Drive hours earlier. Jaime Lopez, 53, remained in critical condition in East Texas Medical Center’s ICU after being struck by a Chevy Tahoe traveling 30 to 40 mph. Lopez, had just delivered produce to Brookshire Brothers Friday morning before parking his rig at Towne Square Four Plaza at 400 N. Timberland Drive to walk across the highway to get something to eat when the accident occurred. Jonathan McGinty, 30, of Huntington told officers he didn’t see Lopez crossing the highway until it was too late. Officials said all of his injuries appeared to be internal. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center-Lufkin’s helipad and then flown to ETMC. The accident is under investigation by Lufkin Police.
