Student Arrested in Gladewater Shooting

GLADEWATER — A 16-year-old Gladewater High School student is in Good Shepherd Medical Center after being shot in the face this past weekend. Late Monday afternoon, a suspect in the case surrendered to authorities. Charged with aggravated assault in the case was Kari Darryieus Harper, 17.

Gladewater Police Chief Farrell Alexander said officers were dispatched to Weldon Bumble Bee Park on South Main Street shortly after 12:15 Saturday morning. The call was in connection to a report of multiple shots fired in the area. Alexander said while officers were responding, another caller reported a gunshot wound victim at the Valero Gas Station near the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 and Lee Street. “The victim was able to say who shot him and give us a little information about what was going on,” Alexander said. The shooting is said to have stemmed from an ongoing dispute over a girl.
