Rep. Jay Dean kicks off Beat the Heat

LONGVIEW – As summer creeps toward the height of its simmering heat, an East Texas representative is launching a $50,000 donation campaign to help local nonprofits provide relief from the heat for communities in need.
Rep. Jay Dean announced on Monday his $5,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity, kicking off the campaign to support their Beat the Heat program. The program was started in 2011 by Dean after East Texas endured record-breaking temperatures and one of the worst droughts in its history. Through Beat the Heat, seniors, veterans, families and others in need have access to life-saving air conditioning.
“I’m asking businesses, civic organizations, churches, and individuals across East Texas to partner with us,” Dean said. “Every dollar donated will help provide comfort, safety, and hope to someone facing the dangerous summer heat.”
People looking to make a donation can mail a check to Habitat for Humanity, in person to 905 McCann Road in Longview or online at NetXHabitat.org.
“Together, let’s once again show what makes East Texas so special by caring for our neighbors when they need us most,” Dean said.
