TYLER – Following a recall of nearly 1.6 million eggs across southern states for a possible salmonella contamination, Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) announced on Thursday that they have pulled potentially affected products from shelves and is offering refunds.
According to our news partner KETK, a voluntary recall notice shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 1,589,577 cartons of white eggs and brown cage-free eggs produced between June 6 and July 3 with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and Aug. 17 were affected.
The eggs were shipped to multiple locations: Foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana and Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi
BGC told KETK News that the safety of customers and employee partners is their highest priority, and they immediately began to remove any potentially affected eggs from stores after receiving notice of the recall. Additionally, replacement inventory and shipments are being sourced from alternate facilities.
Customers who believe they purchased affected products are being asked not to consume them and return them to any BGC store for a refund, BGC said.
BGC released the following statement to KETK News:
“At Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC), the safety of our customers and employee-partners is our highest priority. We were notified that Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. (MPS Egg Farms) has voluntarily recalled certain egg products due to the potential presence of Salmonella. The affected items originated from the supplier’s Texas facilities and were sold in our stores.
Upon receiving notice of the recall, we immediately began reviewing our inventory and removing any potentially affected products from our stores. In addition, any replacement inventory and future shipments are being sourced from alternate facilities while this issue is addressed. All eggs currently available for purchase in our stores were sourced from a different production facility.
We are committed to helping our customers navigate this situation with confidence and care. Customers who purchased affected products should not consume them and are encouraged to return them to any BGC store for a full refund. We also encourage our customers to review the recall information from MPS Egg Farms.
Importantly, our teams have thoroughly reviewed our egg inventory and removed any potentially affected products. Eggs currently available for purchase in our stores are not included in the recall.
Our teams continue to work closely with MPS Egg Farms and regulatory agencies to monitor the situation and assist customers as additional information becomes available. We are committed to transparency, food safety, and doing what is right for the customers and communities we serve.”
