50 years for fatal hit-and-run

TYLER – A woman who killed a 19-year-old cyclist during a hit-and-run in Tyler last December was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday. According to our news partner KETK, the crash took place in the 2600 block of E Fifth Street near the intersection of SSE Loop 323 on December 7 when Andrea Tanner, who was driving, struck cyclist Lofton Williams with her truck and fled the scene. Following the collision, Tanner was seen on footage turning into a Brookshires less than a mile from the crime scene before exiting and driving to the Taco Bell next to it. There, video captures her going in and out of her truck several times and manipulating the grill area and the driver’s side light.
After Williams died at a local hospital due to injuries he sustained during the crash, Tanner was placed under arrest in February and charged with collision involving death.
On Wednesday, Tanner was sentenced to 50 years in prison by the 241st Judicial District Court after pleading guilty to the charges. Tanner’s sentence is expected to begin immediately
