Women jailed for pups death

PALESTINE – As parts of East Texas reached 100-degree temperatures on Tuesday, two Palestine women have been arrested for allegedly leaving a puppy locked in a cage in direct sunlight, causing its death, according to our news partner KETK.
The Palestine Police Department said that at around 4 p.m., they responded to a residence on West Park Avenue after receiving reports that a puppy was locked in a cage with no shade or water. Upon arrival, the puppy was found dead by officers.
Officers were able to make contact with the owners of the dogs, 29-year-old Daisy Guity and 31-year-old Lisbeth Guity. According to the police department, the owners said they put the puppy in the cage at around 1 p.m. before leaving the residence. The heat index in Palestine reached 107 to 110 degrees on Tuesday.
“It is the responsibility of pet owners to ensure the safety and well-being of their pets,” Police Chief Mark Harcrow said. “We are experiencing extreme heat in this Texas summer. Anyone who is found not to be providing adequate shade and water to their pets will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Both owners were booked into the Anderson County Jail and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animal, which is a third-degree felony. The dog has been transported to Texas A&M University for a necropsy.
