Hallsville SWEPCO plant receives new generators to power over 200K homes

HALLSVILLE – As SWEPCO continues to improve reliability in the region, the new Hallsville Power Plant marks a major milestone in construction with the delivery of massive power generation equipment to support the facilities upgrades.

According to our news partner KETK and SWEPCO, the project site received the new equipment this week after a carefully coordinated, multi-state journey to help transform the former Pirkey Power Plant facility into a new, 450-megawatt natural gas generation plant.

The equipment includes a combustion turbine and two generators, which will be used to power approximately 225,000 homes during periods of peak demand.

“The arrival of this equipment is one of the most visible signs yet of the progress being made at the Hallsville site,” External Affairs Manager of SWEPCO Mark Robinson said. “This project represents an important investment in the future of our region’s energy infrastructure and demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable power for customers for decades to come.”

Additionally, the plant is undergoing construction of its civil, mechanical and electrical infrastructure to support the new generation units and electrical building. Construction will peak in the fall of 2026, SWEPCO said, supporting approximately 250 jobs.

“This work represents a critical step in readying the site for new construction that transforms the former Pirkey plant site into a modern energy facility,” SWEPCO said. “SWEPCO continues to invest in infrastructure to support long-term customer growth, system reliability, and economic development across the region to meet the evolving needs of its service territory.”
